I've thought to change alignment into color alignment, perhaps as umbrellas to character qualities (where Lawful is Lawful and Good is Good, but White could be Lawful, Good, or both, among other personality traits) but I either get stuck with each color corresponding to one element of alignment (White = Lawful, Blue = Neutral, Black = Evil, Red = Chaotic, Green = Good) but that would mean you're always either WU, WB, WG, UB, RU, UG, RB, or RG, no way to be a Mono-Green or Mono-Red, etc. If you're a Goblin Barbarian you'd start with 2 red mana points, but because you're a goblin, and attuned to red mana, there could be a clause saying you perpetually have 1 red mana point in your mana pool, that works for static abilities like "as long as you have 1 red mana point in your mana pool, you deal an additional d4 damage on successful attacks while raging" or something, but is too much for something like "spend 1(or 2) red mana points to gain 1 more use of rage". Using Goblin and Barbarian as best examples throughout. So if you're a Goblin Barbarian for example, and you meditated whilst in 3 different unexplored mountainous areas, you'd have 3 red mana points, after an extended rest you'd go back up to 3, if you meditated amongst another mountainous area, you'd go up to 4 and the next extended rest would bring you back to 4.īeyond that, I have no idea what could work. I've thought of everything (I think) only concept that functions all the way is for PCs to do druid shenanigans and spend time connecting to a unique example terrain type (one you haven't before) to get a mana point of a certain color, and at extended rests, that total refills. Says for a lvl1 caster class character, you can begin with 4 arcane points, so I figure to incorporate mana to non-caster classes, halve it, or even make it 1. According to the DMG, you CAN replace spell slots with arcane points or something and an arcane pool, easy swap arcane with mana and off you go. For these reasons, material in this supplement is not legal in D&D Organized Play events. So I'm trying to homebrew as little as possible, and trying to focus on Zendikar only for now (but with any designs geared with future settings in mind) but the primary thing I believe is MUCH needed is a way to incorporate the color pie and mana in where spell casting COULD apply.

The game mechanics in this supplement are usable in your D&D campaign but are not fully tempered by playtests and design iterations. New races, new monsters, and tons of roleplaying advice await inside this treasure chest of rules and lore.
